Mohr received a Bachelor in Science in Speech Pathology at the University of Georgia, with the option of a minor in Audiology. Mohr was also a student at an undergraduate program at University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. Mohr earned her bachelor of Arts in meteorology broadcasting from the University of Georgia in the year 1989. On the recommendation of another UGA student, Mohr started working in the glamorous field at 24. She took part in Miss Columbus Miss Columbus pageant in 1985. After winning the title and smooching the winner, she defeated all competitors. The winner was entitled, as because of this win to take part at the Miss Georgia Pageant in June of 1985. The tournament was also hers on the 22nd of June 1985. Mohr went on to represent Georgia at the Miss America 1986 pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey during September of 1985 after her victory. Despite her victory, she did not place within the Top 10 for the title of Miss America national.
